What we cover

From general liability to surety bonds, we offer the policies contractors and tradespeople actually need.

General Liability

Contractor general liability insurance protects your business from third-party claims involving bodily injury, property damage, and legal costs. What It Covers: Bodily Injury: Medical bills and legal fees if a client, vendor, or visitor is hurt at your job site. Property Damage: Repair or replacement costs if you or your crew accidentally damage a client's or neighbor's property. Completed Operations: Protection against claims if your finished work causes property damage or injury after the project ends. Personal and Advertising Injury: Defense costs for non-physical claims like libel, slander, or copyright infringement. What It Does Not Cover: Your Own Employees: Injuries to your staff require a separate workers' compensation policy. Your Tools and Equipment: Damaged or stolen gear require an inland marine or tools floater policy. Your Own Work/Defects: Fixing your own faulty workmanship is generally excluded, though damage resulting from it to other property may be covered. Business Vehicles: Commercial driving accidents require a commercial auto policy. Costs and Requirements: Average Cost: Contractors General Liability insurance premiums vary depending on type and scope of work, expected gross annual revenue, number of employees, and amount of work being subcontracted. In Washington state, minimum requirements vary by license type, but many clients and commercial leases require at least $250,000 to $1,000,000 in coverage. You can review state specifics via the Washington Department of Labor & Industries.

Contractor Bonds

A contractor surety bond is a three-party agreement that guarantees a contractor will fulfill the terms of a contract or comply with state licensing laws. How It Works: The Principal: The contractor who buys the bond and promises to do the work. The Obligee: The client or state agency requiring the protection. The Surety: The insurance company that backs the bond and pays valid claims if the contractor fails. Repayment: Unlike standard insurance, if the surety pays a claim, the contractor must pay that money back. Requirements and Costs in Washington: General Contractors: Require a $30,000 bond. Specialty Contractors: Require a $15,000 bond. Cost: Annual premiums usually cost between 1% and 5% of the total bond amount (often starting around $100 to $300 per year), depending on credit score and experience.

Commercial Auto

Commercial auto insurance is a specialized policy that protects vehicles owned, leased, or used by a business when they are driven for work purposes. What It Covers: Liability Coverage: Pays for third-party bodily injury and property damage if you or an employee cause an accident. Physical Damage: Covers repair or replacement costs for your vehicle due to collisions, theft, vandalism, or weather events (collision and comprehensive coverage). Medical Payments: Helps pay medical bills for you, your employees, or passengers injured in an accident, regardless of fault. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Protects you if a driver with little or no insurance hits your business vehicle. Vehicles and Uses: Covers cars, vans, heavy trucks, box trucks, and heavy duty trucks. Needed if you transport goods, haul tools to job sites, visit clients, or run business errands. Personal auto policies typically exclude these commercial activities.

Tools & Equipment (Inland Marine Insurance)

Inland Marine Insurance is a specialized type of commercial property insurance that covers tools, equipment, materials, and products while they are transported over land, stored off-site, or used away from your primary business location. Standard commercial property policies usually only protect items stored inside a specific building. Inland marine insurance fills those coverage gaps for movable assets — such as tools and equipment used at job sites, a storage facility, or a work vehicle. Coverage helps replace stolen or damaged tools and equipment quickly, so a setback does not become a lost week.
